What We're Reading

What are we reading? – RITA books!

Hi everyone!

Today is my “What are we reading” feature, and I’m not allowed to tell you! LOL

Why the cloak and dagger?  Because I’m reading 7 books and scoring them for the Romance Writers of America RITA contest. It’s like the Oscars of romance…

So I can’t share the names or I’d get my hand slapped.

But I thought I would ask all of you readers out there…  How much to Contest Wins affect your decision to buy a book? When you see an award under the book’s listing, does that make you more likely to take a chance on a new author?

My novel, Night Walker, won a San Diego Book award for Best Published scifi-fantasy-horror of 2012, and my goodreads ads for that book are always the most clicked. And even though it came out almost 3 years ago, it’s also usually in my top 3 books in my Amazon rankings too.

Is it the contest win, the hot cover, or???

So as I judge these RITA entries, if one of them wins and you see “RITA Award Winner for Best Romantic Suspense” would that make you more likely to click the BUY button?

Curious writers would love to know! LOL

  1. Nope, I don’t even look at the awards or nominations stuff. It seems like every author is a New York Times or other kind of bestseller. I would go for the hot cover though …

  2. Sorry Lisa, awards are not what I base a decision on to buy a book. What I do use is if someone, especially on here, has recommended a book, or it it’s an author I don’t know I read the blurb

  3. Don’t use awards to determine if I want to read a book, but it is nice to see that the author was acknowledged for a great story. I usually scope out the winners and see how many of the books I read before finding out they won.

    • I feel like that too Liz… If I find a new author with a blurb I like AND see an award, I usually am very interested to read it and I’ll click that buy button… 🙂

      Thanks for chiming in!

      Lisa 🙂
