Hello Dear Readers!
Happy Birthday, Haven
It’s Haven’s one-year book birthday! I’m celebrating with a book tour right now. Stop by to read character interviews, excerpts and reviews, and enter the birthday giveaway for e-gift cards and more.
Scene Reveal
As part of the birthday celebration, I have a deleted scene to share with you today. My heroine, Carina, has a small circle of close friends–Faith, Kai, Mark and Ren. You meet them all in Haven, but here’s how Carina and her best friend Faith met the boys…
… Watching them all now, I remembered a night in a crowded warehouse seven years ago, at an all-night, underground dance party. The first time Faith and I met the boys.
Faith and I were dancing on the edge of the crowd when she froze, her eyes wide, lips parted in astonishment. In other words, her psychic-radar was blipping.
She grabbed my arm. “He’s here. They’re all here. Ours!”
I followed her gaze to the nearby speaker stack. She pointed at three Asian guys. The first held a girl pressed against the stack, and, from the look on her face she was enjoying it. His shirt was wadded up and hanging from the belt of his low slung, baggy jeans, showing off a sculpted back.
Ren.
A few feet away from him stood another tall, fit guy in black combat boots, camouflage pants, and a tight black muscle tee. Arms folded across his chest, he surveyed the dancing crowd with a frown on his face.
Mark.
Beyond him, a short, thin kid in a backwards baseball cap, baggy t-shirt and jeans danced alone and off to the side while sucking on a lollipop. Faith focused on that one.
Kai.
“You are totally kidding me.” I laughed, but stopped when she leveled that wise, too-ancient-for-her-face stare at me.
She skirted the edge of the dancers, headed for the three guys. I followed.
Mark noticed us first. His arms unfolded as Faith walked up to him. He was a good head and shoulders taller than her and had to bend to hear her speak.
I stood behind her feeling awkward and nervous, because first, I rarely walked up to guys, they usually approached me. And second, Faith was in groovy-mode, so whatever was happening was weird, probably important, and beyond my control.
Mark’s eyes widened. He looked past her as she spoke in his ear, his gaze locked on me. Faith patted him on the shoulder then motioned me closer.
“Rina, this is your soldier. That one too.” She nodded at the back of the tall, flirting guy by the speaker.
As if on cue, flirting guy turned our way and assessed us.
“And that one…” she stared at the scrawny, dancing kid, her eyes gleaming with excitement. “That one is mine.”
With that she walked straight up to Kai, pulled the sucker from his mouth, tossed it aside, and drew him into a kiss.
Mark and I watched them in silence. Ren joined us on my other side. Mark said something to him in Mandarin. Ren raised both eyebrows and stared down at me. I stared back, unsure of what to say or do. Then we all went back to watching Faith and Kai kiss each other like there was no one else around.
Fast-forward to the present—Ren was still a flirt, Mark was always on guard, and Faith and Kai were still kissing like it was their first time. The lucky bastards. …
